Poppies, bleuets, present au passé
Size 8" x 8" (20cm x 20cm)
Material: Printed cotton muslin, woven natural and synthetic fibres
Price: €50
Poppies are the symbols for remembrance of dead of the wars in the UK. Cornflowers (bleuets) are their symbol in France
It was a memorably crisp autumn day when I met up with my cousin at the Arc de Triomphe to welcome arrival of her husband. He was one of a number of cyclists doing a sponsored London to Paris bike ride for the French and British war veterans. There was a big procession culminating in the laying of wreaths under the Arc in which my French friend's young son was chosen to participate in (despite us being covered in spices and garlands from the morning's festival of Ganesh at La Chapelle). The Champs Elysées is screen printed onto the background, poppy and cornflower colours are interwoven on top. A true entente cordiale!
